DEVELOPING STORY
My next episode is public radio
This past year has been a journey of personal and professional discovery. When you wake up one day and you're "given" a decision that forces you to decide what you want to do with the rest of your professional life, it is overwhelming. This journey became less about who I am and what I want to do, and more about what journalism has become.
Thirteen months after CBS News embarked on their wildly successful reinvention of television journalism starting with my the Innovation Lab, I am happy to say I've found a new home at Colorado Public Radio. Public media feels like the right choice at the right time. The one thing I never considered in the past year was leaving journalism, even though much has been said and written about how consolidations and mergers have influenced editorial decision-making across the business (some by me).
Later this month I will join the team I have listened to every day since moving to Colorado in 2000 — what a fangirl dream. I will start as the public affairs editor the day before the all-important Colorado primary.
Obviously there will be much to do that week and in the coming months as CPR covers the midterm elections. And I CAN'T WAIT!
Share your thoughts, ideas and comments on political coverage in Colorado. Our state has a history of incredibly strong political reporting, I only hope I can live up to the standard set by so many giants: Lynn Bartels, Fred Brown, Adam Schrager, Shaun Boyd, Marshall (aka Mitchell) Zelinger, Kyle Clark, Sandra Fish, Jesse Paul— I could go on and on. But among the best right now are Bente Birkeland and Caitlyn Kim at CPR. I am humbled and honored to get to work with both. And I finally get to be on the same team as Kevin Dale, Chuck Murphy, and get to work once again with Bazi Kanani!
Finally, what kind of public radio employee would I be if I didn't end with a pledge break! Donate to CPR today!

Good for you. Love public radio and know you’ll be an asset. Best of luck with your transition.
Fired up for you, Nicole. Go get 'em!
